Just a heads up.  Ken Dempsey will be conducting a soldering class for our next SNOVARC meeting.  He will be bringing a small kit for everyone that wants to learn best soldering practices.  The cost is $12.50 for the kit.

Please let us know if you would like to use the project to learn or improve your soldering skills August 1st.   Ken needs to know how many kits to bring.  Ken has a few kits but If you do not get your order in Ken may not be able to get enough in for the class on time.

Hello Community Volunteers!!

Duvall needs your help now.  We’re down to the wire for this Saturday, August 3rd.

Please sign up now for the once in your lifetime opportunity to volunteer for Duvall’s 100th birthday celebration.  This is slated to be a phenomenal event, and Duvall city officials and staff are hoping for some of our expertise in keeping the event coordinators abreast of situational needs.  They’re looking for volunteers to act as monitors/rovers and information/operations staff.  Email me now to sign up for your volunteer slot this coming Saturday.

Practice your training!! Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps 9/28 Emergency Preparedness Drill & CERT Refresher working with fellow trained CERTs, HAMs and MRC volunteers as well as local first responders, this simulation is THE BEST chance for you to practice your emergency preparedness skills.  Please RSVP that you will participate in this drill on Saturday, 9/28/13, from 8-noon (includes a bbq lunch).

Refresh your CERT skills!  In preparation for this drill we’re offering CERT refresher classes – 8/17/13 & 9/14.  Don’t miss out – sign up now!!

I hope you will all consider joining us for these important (and FUN) events – we count on our volunteers in so many ways and want you to know we appreciate you!

On behalf of your Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps Councilmembers…be prepared and be safe!

Looking for 3-4 volunteers to participate in the CERT/MRC/SnoVARC exercise on September 28th from 8am- 1pm.  Our role will be providing communications from the McDonald Park Barn (Site of exercise) to Duvall Fire (EOC).  The person(s) at the barn will be communicating with each CERT and MRC Team with FRS radios as they report their different findings.  Then you will communicate those findings with the EOC on amateur radio.  The person(s) at the EOC will operate the amateur radio there (Duvall Fire) and relay any and all information received to the Incident Commander in the EOC.  There will be a runner to go back and forth from the radio to the IC with these messages.

This will be a great time for those who have never experienced operating radios at an event or in an EOC to learn and participate.  This is why we do drills.  Everybody will learn something every time.  My goal is to have a few operators at both sites and give each person a chance to participate.  I really want to get those that have little experience the chance to get involved.  As I mentioned before the more experience you have the better you are prepared for the real thing.  The more we have trained the better we will be able to provide quality communications to our served agencies when needed. And on top of it all there will be a great lunch served after the event.

Hey Bob,

There is going to be a lot of stuff going on with messaging back and forth to EOC, McDonald Park, Hospitals and tribe so there will be a lot of requirement for reading and writing messages.  I know you are having issues with your eyes right now so perhaps it would be better if  you were an evaluator like me.  We will be evaluating the people that will be doing the actual radio work.  I really want to get as many newbies involved as possible.

Thanks,

Rowland

Duvall repeater

Ken Kosters <kenkosters@...>

The repeater has been chunking today stating at 1:00 pm. I tracked it down to the simplex side a removed my tone and listened with the squelch open on 145.590. Data is being passed from some location and triggering the cross band chunking the system from a unknown location.
Not sure what can be done about this?
Just a FYI that it might not be malicious.
