Ok, no one is going to believe me but I literally just returned from the post office where… I dropped the check in the mail.

Seriously.  Really.  The check is in the mail, along with the check for my dues.

That’ll teach me to take so long!

Here is the updated list as I have it for the fox hunt handi-finder kit order.  The order is now at 16.

Please check to see if you are on the list and if I have the correct radio and also indicate the correct adapter.  Turns out only the Boefeng products use the SMA Female adapter.  All other brands use the SMA male adapter.

If you are not on the list and should be or want to participate let me know.

Get your money into Lindy, $35.  I will assist in placing the order as soon as all the funds are in.

Thanks

Re: Bouvet Island FT8 tips

Bouvet is I believe the most remote island on the planet and maybe more people have walked on the moon than been on Bouvet.

I saw people responding to the call the other day but it's out of my reach.

They have published exact instructions and tips for making a QSO with them using FT8. https://www.bouvetdx.org/band-plan-frequencies/
They will be listening in a range higher than their transmit range. No one who transmits on their transmit frequency will be answered. Even if you have no interest in making contact, this DXpedition is one of epic proportions, worthy of a National Geographic movie. The men going are very brave, well-prepared adventurers. How cool will it be to get your signal heard on that little remote, normally uninhabited, frigid dot on the planet? I hope to get set up for FT8 because I am not certain my 15 watts max and my wires can be heard that far on CW, nor is my skill level likely to make it into a pile-up. The website homepage is https://www.bouvetdx.org/. News and updates with photos here: http://www.bouvetdx.org/news-and-updates/

On March 1, Rob Fanfant, N7QT, will be presenting our Elmer session about his recent DXpedition to Mellish Reef. We can be armchair travelers hearing about the technical, legal, financial, and physical challenges of traveling to very remote places to give the rest of us a chance to make radio contact. These DXpeditioners have a lot to teach us about preparedness, problem-solving under the worst conditions, and grit in the face of adversity.

Re: noob with some questions

As a general rule most all the repeaters are open to all amateurs, clubs and individuals.  The challenge for repeaters is to keep them from interfering with each other.  That is where  https://www.wwara.org/

comes in.  This is a group of volunteer amateurs who coordinate the various repeater frequencies.  You could define it as a mesh-net with coordinated frequencies but they are not usually connected together unless by Internet Linking (IRLP).  Any amateur or club can have a repeater but only if there is a free repeater pair (input and output frequency).

Most anywhere you go you can find a repeater to access.  A previous post mentioned www.repeaterbook.comThis is my source when traveling.

I am also available on Tuesday evenings at 7PM for the :New to Amateur Radio" net on the SNOVARC repeater 441.825  Tone 103.5.  We take all questions regardless of how simple or complex and also provide practice using our radios.

Need some help getting on the repeater frequency, give me a call by phone.

Get you money into Lindy, $35.  I will assist in placing the order as soon as all the funds are in.

Thanks

Lindy,
Here is the Handi-Finder Kit list as I have it.  Please check if everyone has their funds in for their kit.

As soon as we are ready I will assist in ordering the parts required.

Everyone else please check to see if you are on the list and if I have the correct radio and also indicate the correct adapter.  Turns out only the Boefeng products use the SMA Female adapter (radio connector is male).  All other brands use the SMA male adapter (radio connector is female).

If you are not on the list and should be or want to participate let me know.

if you have not already done so get you money into Lindy, $35.

Thanks

Radio light

Robin WA7CPA

There was a link to this in the ARRL letter. It is an LED worn on one or more fingers, activated by movement. The idea is to see radio controls in a low-light environment. Maybe it is a good addition to a go-bag.
