Re: Club Logo
I used a font matcher - looks like the main font is Marta Bold (or something very similar) - we can recreate it if need be

Re: Club Logo
Rowland, if you can’t find the original hi-res art work, do we have the font names used? We could remake it if the original art can’t be found.

Club Logo
Does anyone remember who originally designed the current club logo? I know Ken added the mountains but we are not sure who did the original design without the mountains.
Thank You,

Re: IC-705 anyone?
Robin WA7CPA
My non-engineer POV is do/spend whatever it takes ASAP to get on the air and have fun. As you operate you figure out what’s needed next. Get any antenna up and GO. Then work out the rest of your farm. Also, when you spend, buy ONCE. It is more expensive to go cheap and keep upgrading because you left behind features. For instance when I bought my KPA500 amp I didn’t spend the money on the one with more features that now I dearly wish I had. If I had a rule for myself about building stuff myself I wouldn’t yet have a functioning shack. Getting help is what my Elmer’s are for...btw Elmer’s, my 8900 is dead as a door nail. Need help in December troubleshooting...thanks in advance.

It was only after a bunch of years that I got a small (500w) amp. Before I jump to 1500 watts, I'm working on improving my receive capabilities. Yes there is some expense for a Beverage installation, and I may buy a small piece of equipment for phasing, but no more rigs or amps until I can make full use of my 500 watts and icom 7300. Build your station in pieces and make sure that you can use 90% of the capabilities you have before you spend more money. :-) you will learn how not to spend money in the process because a lot of those gadgets we don't really need and the problems they solve can be overcome through ingenuity and sweat - part of the fun! In my opinion slow down with the equipment purchases and get more training under your belt. That is a more affordable way to go also!

Ryan - You're killin' me! This is a really cool small unit, especially for use in a go-box or emcomm back pack. IMHO It would have been perfect if it also had 220 as well. But...alas...no more units for me.- I'm still seriously wet-behind-the-ears as I only had my license for barely 5 months and I already have accumulated 2 hts, 2 mobile VHF/UHF and 1 HF base station (still new in a box and already month old)… LOL... That is the definition of the cart getting way ahead of the horse...

Luckily the 9700 price dropped like a rock. I've been seeing some go used for about $1500 now. I have a linear amp I'm saving for otherwise I'd be looking to see if I could find one used for 1200.

Hi Ryan,

I have had my eye on this one ever since it was announced... The IC-705 is a QRP rig, so power output is low by design. What I really like - it's a true SDR and has the same basic design and Waterfall display as the 7300. Which I love! This rig would make an awesome RFI noise hunter. But Icom really blew it when they released the 9700 - way over priced! So worried they will do the same to the 705 and put it out of my reach... Just have to wait and see... Jim W7ABD

It looks cool as a portable though and supports a few things my 7100 doesn't. The max output power of 10W seems low though. All of the other Icom "mobile" radios @ 13.8v do at least 50W. Interested in your thoughts.

Re: 220 repeater WA7PFB 223.9 - 88.5
OK, my story time. I was able to make contacts on Thursday night.
I'm downtown Carnation behind the elementary school in the new development. I have a 2 story home and cannot reach any repeater with a whip antenna from anywhere in or around my home. For that reason, I have a 2/70 and a 1.25 antenna in the attic. My 1.25 is the Arrow OSJ-220 https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-014681 I was able to hit the repeater using my BaoFeng UV-5X3 connected to that antenna (stack of adapters -> LMR-400 flex). That's only the 2nd 220 repeater I've made contact with. Good times indeed! The BaoFeng isn't great so I give the reception report on-par or maybe slightly scratchier than normal. Now, the SnoVARC repeater was working well that night into my 7100 but we did have a good amount of fog downtown which has caused me reception problems in the past. It seemed people could hear me fine. Happy to keep testing as needed. Keep us posted on the changes and updates.

Yep. We’re about 2.1 miles apart. There’s a ridge in between us.

If I could get the antenna up 100 feet it would make it a lot easier for folks north of me to hit the repeater. Anyway I’m working on plans to a) get the antenna up above my local clutter (perhaps that will happen this weekend or next week) b) get the antenna up to 100 feet or so. That will take longer. I’ve ordered a different antenna, lower gain but easier to attach to a line at the top and then haul it up between two trees. I figure I can get it up to about 60 feet that way. Doing modeling with http://www.bedug.com/radio/ I’m seeing a lot of things now that I didn’t see when I was thinking all this through. The big issue is not arranging for everyone being able to hear the repeater; the repeater puts out 30 watts. The big issue is arranging things so that you can break squelch on the repeater with a 5w HT from the ground across the coverage area. Definitely a learning experience, here. Good fun!

Paul,
I tried a few minutes ago with my Kenwood TH-F6A HT at 5W into a 14” Diamond Tri-Band antenna sitting in my upstairs study. I could hear the station ID, but could not break squelch with my rig. I’m sure elevating my antenna would help as we’re not that
far apart.
Good luck.
Sincerely,

For comparison I cannot hit the Bell repeater at it’s current location at Jim’s place with a 5w HT at my place. It’s actually touch and go hearing it on my GP-6 at about 30 feet and trying to access it with 50W into that GP-6 is also touch and go.

So I am not surprised I have coverage issues to the direct north.

If you’re using the Btech tri-bander HT it’s specced at 4w 1.25m and 70cm.

But yeah, it looks like I can’t hear too well to the north. There’s a pretty big rise between you and me but I also noticed poor coverage in the valley up near NE 124th and the prop simulation doesn’t match that. I suspect I want the antenna up quite a bit higher. Plans for that in the works… Thanks for the feedback!
