Re: Silicone Sealant for PL 259 Connections?

Paul Butzi (W7PFB)

I’m a little behind on this.  I’ve used a bunch of different products for this and the thing I’ve settled on is Times Microwave self bonding tape.  I’ve found the cheaper stuff seems to fail when exposed to UV.

The big win is when you need to take the stuff off.  slit it even part way with the tip of a knife, and it comes off in one piece and leaves absolutely no residue.

Rick,

I would like to stay on the schedule, but I have some significant periods of non-availability this year. If things go as planned, I will be out of town from February 10 thru March 6, from May 4 thru May 24, and from October 14 thru November 6. If this is too difficult to plan around, please either take me off the schedule or place me in an available for substitute status. I appreciate your efforts in putting this schedule together and apologize for making your job more difficult.

Sincerely,

Dick

Having discussed with Rick how the scheduling is done, I’m going to ask that I not be included in the regular Net Control schedule.

I’m perfectly happy to be NCS when someone discovers they can’t cover their date, just let me know what dates you need covered.

In all fairness to all vendors the difficulty comes from the sheer scale of HW vendors and a handful of OS vendors. Now through in bad- and state-actors and you have troubles. I received vulnerability reports at work every day. Security and switching vendors like FireEye, for an example, had a zero day vulnerability just the other day. There’s good money in being bad.

Microsoft spends most of the security research dollars in hardening APIs and protocols, not protecting users against their own bad choices which is how most viruses get on systems. People will click on anything and do.

That's precisely what MSFT should be doing. Securing their platform. Unfortunately users are the weak link.

For years running defender was the worst av software and Microsoft used to tell people it was basic and they should install something additional. It's only been in the last few years they've done anything reasonable with it and claim it's a top tier solution.
