Re: Help please! Frquencies for local NORCOM setting up a SDS200 Scanner
Lou Giliberto (KD7HCW)
Hi Howard, I think you're taking the long way of doing it. The Sentinel database has all that info in there. Look at norcompic1.jpg (attached) Open sentinel and make a favorites list. Then click through in the database tree to Washington->King->County Systems->Seattle-King County Public Safety (KCERS). What you'll want to do is append both a set of frequencies for the system and the different departments etc. So in the pic I selected NORCOM and right clicked and am going to choose "Append to Favorites" You can add all the trunking frequencies for the county, but most everything is simulcast to all the sites. So I just use "King County/Valley Com Simulcast" because I know one of those transmitters is on Old Woodinville Duvall Rd and I'm listening mainly from home in Duvall. So pick whatever ones you want that contain the frequencies and "Append to Favorites" for those also. Now see norcompic2.jpg If you go down to your favorites list and expand the tree, you'll see NORCOM. Under NORCOM you can delete whatever you don't want it to scan. It has all the TGIDs and stuff already set up. Then just save your config and download to the scanner. Make sure the scanner is set to scan that favorites list, and you're good to go. Hope that helps!

Hi All - I hope someone here can help answer a question. I'm setting up my SDS200 scanner to just scan NORCOM fire channels (Admin, Tac 1-Tac 10). I have the TGID's for each of the channels but I don't think I have the frequencies set correctly or the type of system. Looking at RadioReference it shows that Norcom is in the Seattle-King County Public Safety (KCERS) system which uses the Motorola Type II SmartZone - Which of these should be selected? (see picture)

Motorola. The present system is not P25.

In person meetings
Tom WA7TBP
Hello all:
At the Thursday night meeting, we had a short discussion about in person monthly meetings. As a result of the meeting, I am going to suspend all monthly in person meetings until further notice. There are a number of factors for the decision, the COVID variant at the top of the list, and the physical limitations at the Duvall Fire Station being limited to about 20 people.
Like you, I am disappointed we won't be holding our monthly meetings in person, but until something really bad happens, at least we can get together in small groups outside which is better than no in person meetings at all.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me via e-mail or phone, 425-333-4833.
As Sergeant Esterhouse on Hill Street Blues used to say, "let's be careful out there."
73,
Tom

Temporary suspension of HF winlink net checkins
Paul Butzi (W7PFB)
The Winlink development team have asked for a temporary suspension of HF winlink routine net checkins and other practice traffic, to reduce the load on the frequencies used for HF Winlink RMS stations.
The goal is to avoid contention for those frequencies between routine practice traffic and traffic related to Hurricane Ida emergency operations. This isn’t that the Winlink system can’t handle the load, it’s just avoiding contention for those frequencies. Telnet and VHF/UHF traffic is no problem, so if you want to check in via VHF/UHF or telnet, go ahead. But if you were planning on checking in via HF, please hold off until the Ida operations wind down. Thanks in advance for your cooperation on this. -p W7PFB 73, Don’t forget to smile and have fun!

In person meetings
Tom WA7TBP
Hello everyone:
After discussions with most of the club board members and some members at large, I have decided that SNOVARC will postpone meeting in person. We will target October as an in person meeting. The reasons this decision was made are listed below in no particular order:
1. We only get one half of the meeting room at Duvall FD. We would social distance, and that will make the room even smaller.
2. We will have mandatory masking again beginning on Monday.
3. The COVID delta variant is sounding kind of nasty and is spreading way to fast.
4. I wouldn't be surprised if Duvall FD closes their public meeting room again.
I, like most of you, was really looking forward to meeting in person. We still can do that socially for now, but being inside a room is sort out of the question.
Hope the decision doesn't upset your plans. We will get back to normal some day, I just wish I knew when that was going to be.
73 and good DX.
Tom, WA7TBP

Re: Used VGA monitor
I have a reasonably good/large monitor I've been using for about 8+ years and up to about 3 months ago. You can have it for the price of $.01 (plus the cost of gas driving out to North Bend). BTW, it has VGA + HDMI + whatever.

Re: Used VGA monitor
Howard, This is too much of a monitor for what I will be using it for. I just need a simple 19-22" VGA one as all it is doing is allowing me to work on the file server once a quarter and nothing else. I thank you anyway kind sir. Thanks, Rowland

Re: Used VGA monitor
You would need a VGA to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter to use it if you are using an old 15 pin VGA connector
Howard, is it a VGA?
Thanks,
Rowland
