Congratulations! Being a patent was fun, but a lot of work. Being a grandparent is just fun!

ARRL Equipment Insurance

Robin WA7CPA

I just completed the online application for ARRL equipment insurance for my CN88 shack. It costs $1.40 per $100 coverage. $50 deductible. Full replacement cost. The application is approved automatically with payment. I think it is a good deal given the terms if a claim is filed. Got something done I've been meaning to do for a while. The drawers and cupboards are mostly organized. The freezer is filled. Just waiting for that baby granddaughter to make her entrance into the world. I guess now it is time to close the books on 2021 and prepare for tax filing. Waiting. Waiting. For that tiny new boss to decide it is time.

Arrow Antenna review

Mel - N7GCO - Cheney, WA

I recently purchased an Arrow 146-4ss (4 element stainless steel) antenna to use to reach a distant repeater from my tower.
The workmanship and materials are excellent. It was easy to assemble. It was very reasonably priced.

I also own a portable Arrow 2m/440 for my go kit which is also outstanding.

I highly recommend these antennas

Boulder comms

Listening to Boulder County Sheriff and Fire. Heard them ask for a relay that an entire town and its emergency responder station has every phone line down. Ham radio when all else fails...I hope they have some local ham help.

Third Thursday mini exercise

Tom WA7TBP

Hello everyone. I apologize for the delay in getting this info to you. I thought I had sent it already, but found it in my drafts folder. Again, sorry about that.

For tonight's mini exercise, we will use the Cougar repeater to coordinate our 6 meter tune up activities.
I am interested in trying a six meter repeater. The information is below:

RX is 53.83 MHz, TX 52.13 MHz, (-1.7 MHz shift), tone is 123.0 Hz.

Once we have completed testing on the repeater, we will try the following 6 meter FM simplex, 52.54 MHz, no tone, no shift.

When we have completed our test on FM simplex, we will try 50.200 USB.

Again, we will coordinate our activities on the Cougar Repeater. I will be net control. I will record the check ins. Then, I will ask each station to try a test count, and all stations should record how good the repeater signal is and the quality of the audio of the input signal. For example, I would say WA7TBP testing, 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1. Depending on the number of participants, I may allow station to station contacts. We will repeat this process for the simplex and SSB portion of the exercise. Please remain flexible while we do the tune up.

Hope I haven't caused you too much inconvenience with this late notice. I will try to do better for January.

See you tonight.

73,

Tom, WA7TBP

Please put your thinking caps on for 2022

Work party for W7ABD QTH

Tom WA7TBP

Hello everyone:

We are scheduled to do one last fall yard clean up at W7ABD's QTH. I have three signed up. I hope I can get 2 or 3 more folks to help. We will be raking up leaves, mowing (weather permitting) and taking branches back to a debris pile. The last time we did this there were 5 of us and we were finished in about three hours. Hope you can help. Please e-mail me at: tomwa7tbp@... or via return to this e-mail. We are scheduled to do this Sunday, December 12 at 10:00 AM. I will provide directions a little later.

Thank you in advance for your help.

73,

Tom

2022 Elmer Sessions

Rowland

Hi All,

As I try to do every year is ask for your suggestions on what you would like to have for monthly Elmer Sessions.  Remembering we are still using Zoom for our meetings and that somewhat limits us but also opens a door to presenters that may be too far away to attend a regular in-person meeting.

Please think about it and send me some workable suggestions.  If you have direct contacts for possible presenters then please proceed to contact them and see if they would be willing to participate and then let me know.

Remember it doesn't always have to be about ham radio. There are lots of interesting subjects out there.

So put on your thinking caps and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Rowland
