Testing was done on Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu and Baofeng Radios using the new PL Tone.  All were able to connect to the crossband after reconfiguration.

Actually, a transmission centered on 5.925 GHz _isn't_ allowed, as the transmission would extend beyond the upper bound of the amateur allocation.  As I said, "all of your transmission must be within the band allocation that you are legally allowed to use."

I've been looking at ImmersionRC (FatShark compatible), which seems to do this legally, up to 600mW.

I'll give a plug for the Saturday May 27th, June 24th, July 22nd, and August 13th club races at the Big Rock Sports Field - thanks for doing them locally!  Others would probably enjoy watching them.

 

Parts of 5cm in the US are shared between ISM (primary use) and Amateur.  In ITU region 2, the amateur radio band is between 5.650 MHz and 5.925 MHz.  ALL of your transmission must be within that band.  

 

U-NII-4, if adopted (currently being considered), would allow Part 15 unlicensed up in this area, but we're currently secondary only to DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communications) Service - usually emergency vehicles and DOT kinda stuff in our area.

 

Part 97 (97.303, if you're super curious) only has a couple clauses about this allocation and both relate to our secondary use of this spectrum:

 

(d) Amateur stations transmitting in the 430–450 MHz segment, the 23 cm band, the 3.3–3.4 GHz segment, the 5.65–5.85 GHz segment, the 13 cm band, or the 24.05–24.25 GHz segment, must not cause harmful interference to, and must accept interference from, stations authorized by other nations in the radiolocation service.

 

(r) In the 5 cm band:

 

(1) Amateur stations transmitting in the 5.650–5.725 GHz segment must not cause harmful interference to, and must accept interference from, stations authorized by other nations in the mobile except aeronautical mobile service.

Still Need a Net Control!

I like your suggestions, Dan. In April I wrote a document for on-boarding new members to the club and shared it but there does not seem to be a process for discussing/approving/implementing. My document does not address helping newly licensed hams from the class but it could be a platform to add your suggestions and see if the club wants to formally adopt and then follow through. I have attached the document. I hope this helps.

Successful VE Session, 9 new hams

The last time we tried to hold meetings to help new hams it was not very success in my opinion.  How about a trying different approach.

1.    Assign our club members to give each new ham a phone call or contact them by email.  Make sure they have a radio, that it is programmed for the repeater and they know how the PTT button works.  Make sure their radio can access the repeater.

2. Hold a weekly informal round table net with a net control on the repeater that is totally dedicated to answering questions from the new hams.  Tuesday or Wednesday evenings may work and not interfere with existing scheduled nets.

3. For hams that don't check into either the round table or the SNOVARC Thursday night nets, give them a follow up call or email once or twice to make sure they have the opportunity to use their radio during the nets or the CDCCC drills.

Goals; 1. Low pressure opportunity for new hams to get used to talking on their radio with correct protocal and get their questions answered, 2. Lower impact to club members that assist new hams.

Are there hams from our previous VE sessions that could use the same help especially those that are CERTS that may participate in up coming drills.

This is only a suggestion.  Any other suggestions out there?

The exam is right after the end of the Technician Class.  Expect that to be 1500 on Saturday the 20th.  Good idea to be there a bit early.

Location is at the Downtown Duvall Fire Station in the conference room.

The cost is $15.00 for the exam.

Please bring a copy of your current FCC License and your FCC FRN Number.

Supplies needed:  Ballpoint pen for filling out forms and No. 2 Pencil for the exam answer sheet.
