Call for Amateur Volunteers

Jerry NA7Z <GJRCK@...>

The Riverview Educational Foundation is having a safety fair on Nov.
10th at Carnation Elem. School. Really needed are up to eight amateurs
to assist with communications for the 5K/10K run and scavenger hunt.
All that is needed is your HT and spare batteries for the event that
starts at 0900. There is a training meeting on Weds, Nov. 7th, from
1900 to 2000 hours, at the Sno Valley Senior Center in Carnation.

CDARC will share a booth with CDCC inside the school, and it would be
nice to have a CDARC member at the booth also. Inside is where vendors
will have emergency equipment for sale.

Please contact me at GJRCK@aol.com or 425-788-7218. It would be nice
to be able to help these folks out.

More on the event at - http://www.refweb.org/trot/trot_volunteers.htm

Regards, Jerry NA7Z

The Riverview Educational Foundation fun run Nov. 10th at Tolt Middle School.

Jerry NA7Z <GJRCK@...>

The following members of CDARC assisted with providing communications
during the 5K and 10K run event at the Tolt Middle School, in
Carnation. Brian Drake KE7JWI, Rowland Brasch K7RWB, Rick Burns KB7CIN,
Chuck Powrie KE7JWP, Barbara Powrie K7XIT, Jim Harriger W7JDH, John
Gravendyk KE7KYG and Jerry Konoske NA7Z.

It was neat that we could assist another organization in this fund
rasing and good that we could do it as a club. It also provided the
opportunity to practice communications and the use of our equipment.

My thanks to all that took part.

Jerry Konoske, NA7Z

Morning ragchews and VX7R question

Wendell Joost

I'm going to be walking/biking to work from 8am-9am in the Redmond area.

Are there any ragchews/nets going on at that time of the morning that
I could reach with my VX7R handheld?

Also, does anyone have the VX7R cable/software that I could borrow for
about 2 hours in order to upload repeater data into my radio?

Thanks!

Rowland - K7RWB <slick56@...>

Hi Wendell,

Not familiar with any nets or ragchews. Concerning the cable and
software....the program is free to download. You are going to want
your own cable for now and future usage. Go to EBAY and look at item
170168436794. It is selling for $15.00. A very good investment!

Re: Morning ragchews and VX7R question

John KE7KYG

Hi Wendell,

I don't know of any nets that start that late. I've been listening to
a couple that start at 7:00 am. One is the KBARA net out of Spokane and
accessed via the evergreen intertie, the other is just a morning net I
stumbled on at 145.19. As I said, both start at 7:00, the later net
sometimes runs longer but officially ends at 7.

I also have a VX-7R without cables...if you wind up buying a set I'd be
interested to know where you got them and how they work out for you.
entering this stuff manually is a real pain.

Club name change.

Jerry NA7Z <GJRCK@...>

At the last board of directors meeting one topic was to change the name
of the club to reflect a larger area then the current one of Carnation-
Duvall ARC, which could be understood as just those cities.

The board suggests that the name be changed to "North Snoqualmie Valley
Amateur Radio Club". The north is in there as the Snoqualmie Valley is
divided at the Snoqualmie Falls into north and south. This would make
the club more inclusive of the entire valley that we all live in. The
hope is that it would encourage those outside of the Cities of
Carnation and Duvall to join us. At this weeks meeting the name change
was discussed.

Please e-mail yhour thoughts directly to me at GJRCK@aol.com by January
15th, 2008.

Jerry Konoske NA7Z

Local Frequencies

Mel N7GCO <leadcoach@...>

For Christmas my family got me several things to be better prepared
for emergencies, including a new Yellow Top backup battery.

I was updating my memories in my rigs and added two extra memories:
Duvall Fire Dept 154.190
Local Weather 162.550

In an emergency situation these will come in handy.
I thought others in the club might like these.

Are there other local frequencies you would suggest for emergency
preparedness?

New Guy Testing the Waters

wishasm <wishasm@...>

Hey Group, just checking in for the first time. I will probably see
some of you this Thursday at the general meeting. My son and I are
currently scheduled to take the tech class and exam in a couple of
weeks and being a resident of Carnation, would very much like to get
involved /connected with CDARC. If this post is out of place, please
forgive me as this "group thing" is new to me.
