Committee Chairman needed
Rowland - K7RWB <slick56@...>
Hi All,
You may not get this in time for the meeting tonight but if you do please consider taking the position of Committee Chairman for the Emergency Planning and Mobilization Committee. As it is a new committee you will be on the ground floor for shaping it's direction and goals. Thank you, Rowland VP

Re: Committee Chairman needed
John KE7KYG
Hi Roland,
Although I'm very interested in this end of amateur radio, I've always thought I lived on the wrong side of the river and at the wrong end of the valley to be much use in organizing an emergency response or manning the Duvall ERC. Having said that, Rick Burns and I are trying to come up with an emergency operating plan for MRC group which in our minds would depend on the SVARC Hams for support so we would be interested to know who decides to take this committee on so that we can coordinate. If you don't get any takers let me know and I could try and get things started until someone with more experience or a better locale steps up. By the way, you, Mr. Kanoske and Mr. Eittreim did a terrific job at last Thursday's meeting! You could really tell some thought and planning went into the meeting--I'm sure you had a lot to do with coming up with the program. I'm sure looking forward to more of the same in 2008. 73, John KE7KYG --- In KE7GFZ@yahoogroups.com, "Rowland - K7RWB" <slick56@...> wrote: direction and goals.

General License Upgrade Class
Rowland - K7RWB <slick56@...>
The following was taken from the Microhams website about their General Class in April. Rowland and Brian have already registered. I hope others will to. This is the MicroHams site: http://www.microhams.com/softcontent.aspx?scId=25 MicroHams will be sponsoring a General upgrade course April 11-13, 2008. Classes run 7:00pm-10:00pm Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm Saturday and 9:00am-noon Sunday. The class is available to anyone but we ask you register in advance because we have limited seating and materials. Testing will start at 1:00pm Sunday and is also open to the public by reservation. The class will cover the entire Element 3 (General) question pool. Microsoft allows us to make the class available to the public but asks we preregister non-Microsoft employees and provide them a list of vehicles that will be parking on campus. What to expect? These classes are concentrated, fast paced sessions with the goal of getting you to pass the test at the end of the course. Once you register, you should obtain the course materials quickly so that you can start reading it well before the class begins. The textbook contains the necessary background material along with the entire question pool used to make up the tests. More information on the textbook options is available here. During our classes, we review the question pool and do our best to explain the reasoning behind the answers and the concepts involved. For adults, we have a very high success rate, but our compressed format may not be suitable for children under the age of 15 or so. Please ask if you have concerns. The course will run $40 and includes a textbook, handouts and the testing fee. The W5YI General Class book by Gordon West will be provided including a number of other handouts, even discount coupons for new radios. If you already have the book (available locally from Fry's Electronics), the class fee is $20. Testing is also open to anyone for any license class but those not enrolled in the class will need to pay the standard $14 testing fee. The April class will be held at Microsoft's Redmond Campus in the building 40/41 cafeteria. If you take the 40th Street exit from Hwy 520, head east to 156th. At 156th, turn right (south) and continue to 31st. At 31st, turn right and take the first driveway on the left. You can park in the large garage on the right and the cafeteria is the small building between 40 and 41. Since Microsoft will require vehicle information (year, make, model, color, license #), please send that information to Scott, N7SS at the email address below. To register, simply email "N7SS at ARRL.net" and state whether you need a book. Including a phone number and how you heard about the class would be helpful. The information below is for the older question pool and new versions will be posted soon. For more information email N7SS@....

Club name chnge.
Jerry NA7Z <GJRCK@...>
For some months discussion has been on going to change the club name to
reflect a larger area then just Duvall and Carnation. The board recommended the name Snoqualmie Valley North ARC at the last meeting, which was not well received by the members present and was voted down. The name Snoqualmie Valley ARC was suggested, voted on and passed by the members. So, we are now Snoqualmie Valley Amateur Radio Club. You may of seen that the name has been changed on the yahoo opening page. Thanks to all that attended and took part in the vote. Ric did a nice job on NVIS antennas for 40 and 80 M's. We hope to have more presentations at meeting on a wide range of subjects and welcome ideas and those that would have knowledge to share with the rest of us. The subject does not have to be directly related to amateur radio matters. Thanks again to all who attended. Jerry Konoske NA7Z

Puyallup Ham Fair and Flea Market March 8, 2008
Jerry NA7Z <GJRCK@...>
Each year the Renton Mike and Key ARC holds a hamfair at the Western
Washington Fair Grounds, in Puyallup. There is some new equipment vendors there but mostly it is used gear. Along with the used gear are all kinds of needed supplies, connectors, color coded wire of many different guages, antennas and some truly unidentifable WW2 equipment. For those new to the hobby it would be a good experience to see what happens at an amateur flea market. More information can be had at - http://www.mikeandkey.org/flea.htm - 73's Jerry NA7Z

A Little Help
Rowland - K7RWB <slick56@...>
The new website is going to have an FAQ (frequently asked questions)
page. These FAQs will cover information about the club, CDCCC, ARRL, technical info, educational info, etc. I am going to ask all of the members to help me out with gathering this information for the FAQs. I will be emailing each of you one or two questions in the next few days and I would greatly appreciate you researching the information required for the questions/statements and emailing it back to me. I will then review the information, and upload it to the FAQ page. I think this will be a great way to get everyone in the club involved no matter what your HAM experience is. And please if you come up with some information that would add to the FAQ page by all means do not hesitate to get it to me. The more minds working on the part of the site the better it will be. Over time I think it could become a very good reference page for us and others interested in the Amateur Radio world. Thank you very much! Rowland

SPAM Problem
Hi Eveyone, As you have noticed we occationally get someone who joins the site and thens sends out a message about junk. As soon as Jerry or I see it we remove them and the message although by that time it has already gone out to all of you. This is the third time for this particular person. I banned them from the site but they will be back again under another user name. We can set this site up so we have to approve membership prior to it being official. In other words someone will apply as you all did but instead of it being automatic the site emails Jerry and I telling us to decide if this application is ok. If it is we click ok and they are good to go. If it isn't we click refuse and they go away. So far we have only had about 4 occurances with spammer on this site so I am not to worried about it now. If it starts to increase then we might consider the above. Thanks for listening. Rowland
