Carnation Saftey Fair
Jerry NA7Z <GJRCK@...>
Can anyone help Rick out on this. His e-mail is n6nr@arrl.net
I could use some help at Carnation Safety Fair. I might be able to handle Com 80 [comm van] by myself, but it would be wonderful if we could get a few folks to help out, especially with the Carnation CERT folks and SVARC members. Let me know if you are interested. The Carnation Safety Fair is at STA 85 in Carnation from 1000 to 1400 hours on Saturday, May 10th. Jerry Konoske NA7Z Snoqualmie Valley ARC Duvall, Washington

Selling Yaesu VX 6
Mel N7GCO <leadcoach@...>
Yaesu HT VX-6R
HRO's and Universal Radio's current price is $249.95 Used only 5 to 10 times. Includes programming software Sell for $175.00 I found I am more comfortable with Icom radios. The Yaesu VX-6R is a triple band (2M, 220 & 440 MHz) HT with extensive receive coverage. It is both submersible (JIS7: 30 minutes of submersion at depth of 3 feet) and extremely rugged. The VX-6R provides wide receiver coverage at 504 kHz ~ 998.99 MHz (cellular blocked), and puts out 5 Watts of power on the 144 and 430 MHz bands and 1.5 W on 222 MHz. The standard memory has 900 channels with 6-digit alpha numeric tag, and 24 memory banks for channel allocation. The VX-6R compact package measures just 2.3 x 3.5 x 1.1 inches WHD and weighs only 9.45 oz (with battery and antenna). The Volume and Squelch knobs are oversized, for easy operation even when wearing gloves. Other features include: black magnesium case, 900 memories, severe weather alert, and multicolor transmit/receive LED. If interested contact Mel (N7GCO) at leadcoach@verizon.net. I will put it on Eham next week.

What Mobile HF Antenna Do You Like?
Rowland - K7RWB <slick56@...>
What Mobile HF Antenna Do You Like? Since I now have my General I will be researching HF antennas for the van. I would like to get one that is a multiband unit with a motor drive system. As I need to park in parking garages a lot I want to have the means of remotely lowering the antenna when needed. Please give all your feedback on what you like. Thanks,

Rowland:
I have a Tarheel brand screwdriver type antenna. I am very pleased with how
it is built and how it performs. There are a number of local hams that use this
antenna with similar results. I will be glad to demo mine for you sometime.
There are many nice accessory controllers you can get for the antenna. Google
Tarheel antennas for a quick look at their products.

Re: What Mobile HF Antenna Do You Like?
Mel N7GCO <leadcoach@...>
Rowland there are a number of good choices. If money is no object, I
think the Hi-Q are excellent. On a more economical scale are the High Sierra and the Tarheel, both of which are well made. I have a High Sierra and I think some other in the club have the Tarheel. Everyone I know who has either of these likes them and I would consider them equals. You will also probably want an automatic tuner for your screwdriver. I have the Turbo Tuner and like it. How you mount the antenna is important on a mobile installation. A good source of ideas for mobile installations is Alan Applegate's web site http://www.k0bg.com/. I will be glad to show you my installation if you were interested.

Thank you all for the information on the HF mobile antennas. I
appreciate the feedback. This is what I picture this site to be other than just an email site. It can be used for technical information exchange, announcements for up coming events, etc. Rowland

Field Day on June 28th at Safeway Parking Lot In Duvall
Rowland - K7RWB <slick56@...>
Field Day on June 28th at Safeway Parking Lot In Duvall I need to get feedback from all of you regarding a Field Day display on June 28th (Saturday) in the Safeway parking lot from 10 am - 3 pm. We can approach this three different ways.
The purpose for this display is the promote HAM Radio and the Snoqualmie Valley Amateur Radio Club. If we do the booth by the door we can see if Safeway will let us use an AC plug to activate the equipment. We will need an HF radio and antenna setup. We will need handouts about the club. Please get back to me soon as June 28th will sneak up on us fast! Rowland

Chuck Powrie <cpowrie@...>
Roland,
Barb has some handouts from ARRL which we though could be handed out at Duvall days. They would also work for Field day, be she did not get a lot of them.
I think having some active radios making contacts would be a good idea. Isn’t what that field day is all about.

I agree Chuck. I think having active radios operating is the way to
go. I just want to see if we want to go with an RV or a vehicle. Rowland --- In KE7GFZ@yahoogroups.com, "Chuck Powrie" <cpowrie@...> wrote: out at Duvall days. Antenna Supplies
Mel N7GCO <leadcoach@...>
Since Some may be building or repairing antennas this summer, I
thought I would mention that Westlake Electronic Supply has moved to the Eastside (14071 NE 200th Street Suite B, Woodinville, WA 98072 - http://www.westlake-electronic.com). They carry genuine Belden cable and Amphphenol PL 259 connectors cheaper than HRO. I purchased 100' of Belden 9913 for my VHF/UHF antenna today. Another good source of connectors, etc is Vetco Electronics (12718 Northrup Way Suite 100 Bellevue, WA 98005 -- http://www.vetco.net) It is great to have two quality sources near to Duvall.
