Assist to North Bend Bicycle Ride
Jerry NA7Z <GJRCK@...>
If anyone can help on the following please let me know. Jerry NA7Z
The Valley is having a Bike Race Tour De Peaks on July 27. SECAST and North Bend group are providing radio support for the racers and staff. One leg the long leg takes the race down to Carnation at that Park on the edge of town, then returns back up to Snoqualmie/North Bend. The race again is July 27th 0900-1430 route closes at 1400 so the last 30 minutes is for stragglers. If your group [SVARC] can provide a 4-5 volunteers that would be great. I will be having a group meeting the week prior to the race to nail down the static points once we have a final head count. The bike race route is from Snoqualmie to Fall City SR 203 to Carnation at Mc Donald Park (I believe they go over Ames Lake back to SR 202 ) and then back to Fall City and return to Snoqualmie. In years past we have driven the route looking for bikers with issues. With the rising cost of gas this year we are attempting more static points and riders have been instructed to call race headquarters if they have an issue and drivers will be dispatched to assist them. We will be using VHF 146.980 –dup 100.00 tone UHF 444.925 +dup 85.4 tone Simplex 147.540 Obviously the simplex will only work for the shorter distances so typically using the repeaters for most communication. Using both VHF and UHF to allow the flexibility of equipment that volunteers have.

Summer Antenna projects
Mel N7GCO <leadcoach@...>
Knowing that many hams use the summer to upgrade their stations, I
thought I would share my project. I added a photo album (see photo link on side of club screen) on the following: For each HF antenna line (4) I have added a eight ferrite toroids to create a common choke as soon as the antenna coax enters the house. I used the information from www.yccc.org/Articles/W1HIS/CommonModeChokesW1HIS2006Apr06.pdf to build the chokes. At the lightening/grounding bus just before the coax enters the house I use I.C.E. 303 Coaxial Impulse Suppressor/Arrestor (http://www.iceradioproducts.com/impulse1.html#1) for HF antennas and Alpha Delta Model ATT3G50 Lightening arrestors (http://www.alphadeltacom.com/tt3g50.html)for the VHF/UHF antenna coax cables. The lightening/grounding bus plus the shack ground system is connected to 4 ground rods and the house ground as required by regulation. Thought this might give someone an idea. Mel, N7GCO

Boy Scouts
Mel N7GCO <leadcoach@...>
Tonight at the club there was discussion on the Boy Scouts Jamboree on
the Air. What is Jamboree on the Air (JOTA)? When Scouts want to meet young people from another country, they usually think of attending a World Jamboree. But few people realize that each year more than 400,000 Scouts and Guides "get together" over the airwaves for the annual Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA). Modern technology offers Scouts the exciting opportunity to make friends in other countries without leaving home. JOTA is an annual event in which Boy and Girl Scouts and Guides from all over the world speak to each other by means of Amateur (ham) Radio. Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared via radio waves. Since 1958 when the first Jamboree-on-the-Air was held, millions of Scouts have met each other through this event. Many contacts made during JOTA have resulted in pen pals and links between Scout troops that have lasted many years. With no restrictions on age or on the number of participants, and at little or no expense, JOTA allows Scouts to contact each other by ham radio. The radio stations are operated by licensed amateur radio operators. Many Scouts and leaders hold licenses and have their own stations, but the majority participate in JOTA through stations operated by local radio clubs and individual radio amateurs. Some operators use television or computer-linked communications. http://www.arrl.org/scouts/jota/ http://www.arrl.org/scouts/ When? JOTA is held the third weekend in October of each year. JOTA takes place starting Saturday at 0000 hours local time (12:00 AM) to Sunday, 23.59 hours local time (12:00 PM), though some activity continues over from Friday to Monday to take advantage of long distance (DX) time differences.

Please jot down your thoughts and ideas on the direction you would like to see the Snoqualmie Valley Amateur Radio Club take the next two years and bring them to the meeting for discussion and comparison with all the other members ideas and suggestions. Here are some ideas that were briefly discussed at the last meeting:
And so on................. Thank You! The Board

NET Controller
Rowland - K7RWB <slick56@...>
NET Controller Jerry and I have served as Net Controllers for most of the time over the past few years. We think it would be a good idea for some of you to have this experience also. We have the script all made up and all you have to do is read it and follow it. For those who do not get on the air very much it would be good practise and confidence builder in radio skills. I am going to upload the scripts onto this site so you can print them and be familiar with them. I will be talking about this at the next meeting and have a sign up form. I was nervous the first time but it went pretty smooth. Once you do it you find out it is pretty easy. Thanks!
