Re: Cougar Repeater Receive

1. Ensure you have your radio configured to send DTMF
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
2. tune radio to the SNOVARC repeater in question 3. Hold down the PTT and dial 123 on the keypad 4. Release PTT. The repeater should respond with voice saying “ready” 5. Hit PTT, talk into mike. 6. Release PTT. Repeater should play back a recording of what you transmitted in (5)

Re: Cougar Repeater Receive
Newbie needs help... Can you explain the process? I have sent the DTMF code 123 on key-up. Do I unkey, wait, and then key-up and test?

Re: Cougar Repeater Receive
I just did a recording test on the repeater at 50 watts and what I heard had lots of white noise. I am at 550' and should sound much better. Thanks, Rowland

The DVR Readback test is called by DTMF: 123 I checked cougar repeater receive via the DVR readback at 2, 30 & 50 watts from my base station at the home QTH - Was able to copy all three transmissions, although as expected the signal had more noise on it a 2 watts. Was not able to copy cougar repeater (via DVR) from my HT at 5 watts, outdoors at my location. But that has always been the case here. My home QTH is 7 miles East of Downtown Duvall at an elevation of 550 feet. My Base Antenna height is 30 feet. Base Antenna is a Hustler G6-270 Dual Band 5/8 Wave, 8 foot vertical Jim W7ABD

Possible Novelty Hill Closure
Hello, Please be aware that Novelty Hill may be closed at the end of June for slide repairs. See the following from KC website: Novelty Hill Road Closure End of June Roadway and hillside repair work. The work requires a three (3) week FULL ROAD CLOSURE in both directions. The closure could start as soon as 9 a.m. on Monday, June 29. We will reopen no later than 5 p.m. on July 24. While the road is closed, crews will repair the roadway and hillside, which were severely damaged by a slide last February. Signs will direct motorists to detour routes. Expect delays. This work is weather dependent. See the following site for more information... Thanks, Rowland

Fw: Our remote VE session are starting . . . we could use some help.

Hello all! Our remote VE team’s first step is behind us and it was a huge success. We have a team of over 20 VEs accredited with GLAARG and we are starting our second set of exam sessions. We could use some more VEs! The larger the team we train, the more candidates we can license . . . As you would expect, there is a huge demand right now for testing. We have not had in-person testing for many months. And this pandemic has certainly raised everyone’s awareness for emergency preparedness.
Would you like to help? Do you have extra time to help someone get licensed?
It is easy – the first step is to get accredited as a VE. You do not need to be an ARRL-VEC accredited VE to participate. We use the Greater LA Amateur Radio Group as our VEC with remote exam sessions. Their requirement is a statement that you are aware of the Part 97 regulations for VE testing and will comply. As a VE you can be licensed as either a General- or Extra-class. On the hardware side, all you need is a computer with a webcam that can run Zoom and a stable Internet connection. Everything is done remotely across the Internet.
Sound interesting? Just drop me an email and I will get you looped in!
Thanks.

These are the clues we need. I go to repeaterbook. I’m looking for a repeater with the INPUT frequency of 146.5, because I think I am hearing different transmitters transmitting TO the repeater. Repeaterbook gives me this DSTAR listing: KF7CLD 147.5 -1MHz shift, located in Burien. My conclusion is that we’re hearing DSTAR users working the KF7CLD 147.5 repeater in DSTAR mode.

I don’t know about anyone else but I am hearing this intermittently, still.

Today I hooked an SDR and took a look. I had expected to see a pretty wide signal, spread from maybe 146.4 up to 146.6 Rather to my surprise what I saw as a very narrow, very clearly digital signal centered *exactly* on 146.500. I would say roughly half the bandwidth of an normal analog amateur FM signal. Some of the time I hear a very faint CW tail after the digital portion of the transmission. That really, really suggests it’s a VNBD amateur transmission of some sort, because I just can’t imagine some random signal terminating with a CW callsign ID. Sadly, the CW id is too faint for me to copy.

Is there interest in me holding a Zoom meeting sometime(s) to show Baofeng owners how to field program? (Not during club meeting, just an extra, one-on-one okay). I must say, I have a renewed UHV/VHF interest with all this stay-at-home. Familiar voices are a comfort. I wish I had stuff to talk about, lol.

Re: Great Site
As I have stated before it is very important to know how to manually program your rados. Software is a great tool but when you do not have access to it and need to program a frequency or repeater manually (and that need will arise) it is better to at least have one of these short version cheat sheets with your radio HT all times. I suggest printing them out, laminating them and then attach to the radio with string, rubber band or what have you. Thanks, Rowland
