It's May 7th. I didn't want to spam too much, but will send reminder with the corrected date on the 3rd.

One thing to think about is if you partake in anything be it a contest or emergency event that requires you to show a copy of your license it might be a good idea to have at least the wallet version with you.

That's the answer I needed.  I didn't see anything suggesting we as operators even need to have a copy in our possession should the very unlikely circumstances arise where FCC asks to see it. They'll just verify I have one looking at the data, when they come knocking at my door because they are getting complaints about my 200' mast and my 10KW RF signal Emoji. So I will cease waiting for it and spend the time printing it from the ULS.

I believe the FCC is no longer issuing paper licenses routinely. I believe you now have to request a paper copy. I remember reading something about no paper licenses from some recent point forward. You are also supposed to be able to print a copy of your license information from some spot on their website. A call to the FCC or ARRL would probably get you more definitive answers.

I have a question about how long it takes to get new paper licenses sent from FCC after being renewed.  A good number of weeks ago I renewed 2 family members ham licenses but nothing has yet to be received.  This wait has been much longer than I've ever experienced in the past.  Could it be that I left out a step or missed some instruction like "allow months for it to be sent" or could it be I'm supposed to retrieve it myself and print at home?  i've already confirmed them "renewed" once and am about to do it again or call the FCC to ask where it is.

Thanks for any feedback on how long this process takes now!

It would be nice to get some catalogs from HRO or at least fliers to show new hams the options they have for equipment purchase.  I will contact them and have some sent here so we can have them handy to give out.

Thanks,

There is a help session scheduled at 5:30 PM on Thursday May 7th before the SNOVARC meeting for those new to amateur radio. We will be there to answer questions and get you started making contacts.

We can cover any topic needed. Help with what to buy for a radio, what accessories do you need, how to program your radio, the protocols for making contacts, how to put up an antenna, or anything we can do help to get you started in this hobby.

For technician class licensees and the use of the radios for emergency communications I have attached a presentation for how the radios communicate. This will assist you in learning how to program the radios.

Hope to see you all on the 7th. Please pass the word on

Thanks all!

That's a nice presentation Dan. I could have used that when I started out ;).

I may show up to that pre-meeting presentation. I might be of some help even. Stranger things have happened. 😀

Best Regards,

Dan Pflugrath

I will be on this weekend as a rookie as well as my 9 year old son KG7OQT. It is his first ever contest.

Don't forget folks, this Sunday is the SSB Rookie Roundup!

The mission of Rookie Roundup is simple:

*Mission:*To encourage newly-licensed
operators (“Rookies”) in North America (including territories and
possessions) to operate on the HF bands and experience competitive
Amateur Radio operating. Experienced operators (“Non-Rookies”) are
strongly encouraged to participate and help new operators – either on
the air or in person.

For the purposes of this contest, if you got your license in 2013, 2014 or 2015, you qualify as a rookie!
