WSDOT Statewide COMMEX

Rowland

Please review the following announcement and let me know if you are interested in participating.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is planning on a state-wide COMMEX involving highway damage reports to be sent via Amateur Radio EMCOMM.
Please see the below information from Steve, WA7PTM, who has been working closely with the WSDOT Traffic Management Center (TMC) Manager at the Southwest Region.

The goal of this exercise is to pass highway damage reports to DOT Regional EOCs operating under the premise that normal communications systems are inoperative. Damage reports will be prepared in advance by WSDOT staff and given to local Amateur Radio EMCOMM teams for transmission to WSDOT Regional Emergency Managers at the regional EOCs. Amateur Radio EMCOMM teams are being asked to use WINLINK data to send the highway damage reports.

To assist with the state-wide planning process the exercise planning staff need the following from us:

1. What geographic area will be participating in this COMMEX. This piece of information is very important so appropriate injects can be prepared for the MSEL. It is anticipated that
ARS EMCOMM team members will to be required to respond to perform damage surveys. They will be provided injects to be sent by radio to the local EOC, actual or notional,
who will forward the damage reports to the WSDOT Regional EOC. Specific are being worked out and details forthcoming.

2. An ARS EMCOMM WSDOT region coordinator who can serve as a liaison to the regional emergency manager and getting the highway damage reports to them. Specifically, for
WWA two coordinators will be needed A) ARES District 6 where traffic can be relayed to the WSDOT emergency manager in Shoreline. B) ARES District 3 where traffic can be
relayed to the WSDOT emergency manager in Lacey.

Thanks,

Rowland
